m2t to DVCPRO HD – any quality loss?
Hi, I’m about to cut a feature shot HD720, 24p, cutting in FCP 5.04, finishing on 35mm.
The rushes are currently in the m2t format, so will be converting them to work in FCP.
I’ll be taking the final edit to a post house as a .tiff sequence with handles, for colour grading and output to film at 24fps.
It looks like the best path for this is to convert the m2t files to DVCPRO HD using mpeg streamclip and these will become my MASTER FILES
Depending on space issues, I’ll propably also compress rushes to photo-jpeg for editing, then re-conform the final edit to the DVCPRO HD files.I want to make sure that converting to DVCPRO HD has no quality/colour space degradation from the .m2t originals, or if there’s a way of reconnecting back to .m2t?
(via something like ‘Edius’ software)
I see in my tests that DVCPRO HD is almost double the data rate of .m2t, so if anyone could confirm/reasure that this is the best path, I’d be so happy!many thanks

That doesn’t shoot m2t. That shoots DVCPRO HD. The original files are MXF files…wait, are you using the Firestore? Did you know that you have to have the firestore prepare the footage as P2?

sorry got my wires crossed there, the camera was actually the JVC GYHD 101E, shot @ 60p
