  LTO 4 – How to erase tape?

  I have a situation where I may have to temporarily back up about 4-6 TB. I can do this using a LTO 4 drive and Symantec Back Up Exec 12.5 but it will take up a number of tape carts. When the project is done I will have no need of the back up and would like to erase/overwrite the carts. Is this purely a software function?
