    Hi,

I would like to know if there is a chance of improving the picture quality of my text over an Apple Pro Res image. You see, the project I am working on started as DV and then was uprezzed to HD 16:9 Apple ProRes HQ. All has gone well.

In the new Reel/sequence, (Apple Pro Res 422 HQ) we have copied the text subtitles from the DV version and pasted them into this sequence. Of course the text is unrendered but all looks good. The text is sharp and accurate when the image is static.

However, when we render, the image doesn’t degrade but the text degrades a little. Not too bad but is less than its ‘unrendered counterpart’.

I just wondered if anyone has come across this before?

(I might add my text is on WHOLE numbered pixels in its position as well)
(I even used the Boris 3D to recreate the text but no improvement with this method either)
(Even shift fields does not help)
(I am using a JVC broadcast LCD monitor DT-V20L)

The sequence is running at 29.97 and I exported the sequence to create APR 422 HQ interlaced QT clips. The same effect occurs again.

When I render the ‘DVCPROHD 720P60 alternative-there is an improvement in quality of the text.

Is it just that APR 422 HQ codec is not best with text as an interlaced file?

    Any thoughts, much appreciated.

    An additional piece of information.

So I did a test and added a lower third to a shot. I added 3D text on top of it.

Sure enough, unrendered – the text looked sharp.

Rendered it looked a little blocky.

Then I outputted a QT. This looked great. The text was sharp and clear. No weird artifacts.

So the question is? Is interlace the REAL issue?? i.e really affecting how titles look on my LCD monitor? I’ve never noticed it before on the DV version of these titles.

Has anyone used Apple Pro Res recently? Do they get sharp clear text titles over picture??

    Very odd.
