Hi Guys. I’m after a bit of a hero. I recently got back from a trip to a convention with a bunch of interviews recorded, however all of the audio from the card got completely corrupted and I am now stuck with the cameras on board audio as the only audio I have. It is not good to say the least.

The room is very loud and you can barely hear the interview over the noise. I have tried using noise reduction in Audition to remove some of the general room sound which is helping but isn’t too great. My knowledge on this is limited so I wondered if anyone has any tips/techniques that I could try to maximise what I have. I’m not expecting perfection/just something that it is audible. Any help you could give would be HUGELY appreciated.

Here is a link in case you need to hear what I’m talking about:

Wow, that is as hopeless as I have ever heard. Even with a human ear, it is hard to tell even what voice sounds you are trying to extract. The noise is so random and essentially indistinguishable from the dialog you want to preserve, I cam’t imagine that there is any software that can do that. Sorry.

My only solutions would be subtitles and/or dialog replacement/”translation”. (Pretend you are voice-over “translating” from Sentinelese or Klingon.) This is an excellent demonstration of why it is a good idea to send the prime audio into the camera even if you don’t anticipate using the camera audio track. That camera audio track is hardly even a “sync” track, much less a “transcription grade” recording of the dialog.

Recording audio without metering and monitoring is exactly like framing and focusing without looking at the viewfinder.
