Lost 1080p25 monitoring through FCP7
Posted by Dan Graetz on January 15, 2010 at 9:35 amHi all,
Since my last install of the Kona 7.1 drivers I’ve lost the 1080p25 Playback output option inside of Audio/Video Settings. The 1080p25 option is available in the Kona control panel and there’s also an Easy Setup for it. But when you apply the Easy Setup it says:
‘Unable to locate the following external devices:
AJA Kona 1080p25 10 bit (1920×1080).’
I’ve tried reinstalling the drivers (with the relevant Easy Setups selected in the installer) but it’s still the same.I’m running a Octo Mac Pro 3.2ghz with 8gb RAM, Kona 3, REDRocket, Quad FC 4gb, FCP7.01, OSX 10.5.8
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
Cheers,

January 15, 2010 at 10:48 amTo add to (and I hope not hijack) this thread, could this be related to the fact that the Easy Setup for 1080p25 (I’m using XDCAM 422 footage shot at 1080p25) the video output is set to NONE?
Manually changing the video output to 1080i25 restores my picture – but won’t this be an issue when I lay this to tape? Am I losing quality on output – presumably I am. Where are the 1080p25 options?

January 15, 2010 at 10:51 amApologies – just noticed the reply from Gary Adcock below about using 1080i25. Don’t know why it didn’t come up on my search….
Still not clear why if that’s the ‘official’ Kona setting to use for 1080p25 footage, the Easy Setup defaults to video NONE – or have my presets been corrupted/altered…?

January 15, 2010 at 5:50 pmIf you need p (true p and not psf which many decks won’t read) then you can turn in 1080p geometries in the setup tab of the kona control panel. This will turn on 1080p outputs. If you don’t or it doesn’t work, then use the 25i setting and you footage will get laid off psf.

January 15, 2010 at 9:46 pmThanks Jeremy. That makes perfect sense. These edits will be laid off to HDCAM for duplication, then to various tape formats – I think it’s going to around 120 broadcasters… On that basis, I imagine we would not want the true p used, but stick with psf.
Incidentally, I’m amazed by the quality of the XDCAM 422 footage. Although undoubtedly down as well to the quality of the glass used on the shoot, it really is remarkably detailed and possesses an almost 3D depth to it. Very nice…
Thanks again!

April 6, 2010 at 5:56 pmYou have to install those easy setups form the driver installer. Just uncheck the driver and install the easy setups you need.
