I’m a veteran video producer/director/editor who has recently taken delivery of my first HD system, after reaching the end of the line with a no-longer-supported SD software/hardware.

I chose to continue down the road using Vegas. However, meanwhile I’m still doing projects with my old system, and I’m concerned about the time it will take me (with the time I have available) to start actually outputting projects with what appears to be a real steep learning curve with Vegas.

I’m wondering if there’s anyone in the Portland, OR area whom I could hire for a day to give me a one-on-one cram session with Vegas. I’ve been in contact with someone in Texas who offers tutoring, but I thought it prudent to see if I could find somebody local first. If anyone fits this bill I’d love to hear from you. Thanks.

I don’t live anywhere near Portland, but I would be happy to remote in to your system (given you have it online) and give you a helping hand on the basics. If you don’t find anyone local or the tutoring doesn’t work out, feel free to email me through the forum and we can set up a time for a remote session.

Actually Vegas is way easier to use in my opinion that FCP, Media composer, Adobe Premeire ect. With your experience, and checking out the tutorials, see the link at the top of the sony Vegas Forum, and reading the help file, you could be up and running pretty quick. You could get hands on training with people not in Portland using “Log me in” or another remote desktop program, where I or someone else can see and control your screen and talk you through some of the basics on the phone at the same time. Vegas is alot easier that you may think. If you can’t find local help, I would spend an hour or so a night for a few nights with log me in if you need.

Okay, well thanks folks. I may very well take you up on your offers for online tutoring. I’m also nervous about fumbling around as a newbie (to Vegas) and developing bad habits that I’d have to un-learn afterward. I’m starting to feel the love here, though. I still have a few apps I need to load on my system, and I’d like to have some of my specific questions jotted down before I contact you so I don’t waste your time. Anyway, I’m very happy to see the cordial and helpful attitudes of people on these kinds of user groups. It helps to “not feel so alone out there.” –Kelly

Kelly, trust me when I say that if you could handle the dpsVelocity (I’m a former user too), Vegas will be no problem whatsoever.
Once I learned that titles went on the top track and not track 3, the rest came very easy 🙂

To Jeremy: I might take you up on your offer, at least on a few initial things. Would you mind e-mailing me privately? kelly@kgcreative.biz
