Long scrolling credit question

I’ve found that the credits look good when using the credit roll in Vegas until I make a DVD and then the credits always has always looked real jerky.
It was suggested to me that I just insert text, resize it with the crop/pan tool and then scroll it using the text placement tool to scroll by using the key frames. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to using the credit roll. I’ve never had any luck with the final product.
