Long saving and purge times
Hi,
My After effects projects are slow to save sometimes taking as long as 20 minutes on an SSD. I am getting a very similar issue when purging my cache.
The issue is super strange as if I open a window in front of AE the saving bar or purge bar shoots up. So when I save I have to open a window in front of the AE so decrease the save time from 20 mins to 1 min.
Hopefully, someone has come across a similar problem before.

That’s super-weird. What version of AE and what OS?

I’ve seen something similar–for awhile, if I was rendering a Dynamic Linked AE project in Premiere, it would hang basically forever…unless I clicked into AE, and then back into Premiere, at which point it would render like normal. It was 100% consistent.
What I did to fix this was…nothing. I just dealt with it for awhile, and then it stopped happening. I have no explanation for why it did this, because I didn’t update versions–maybe some minor OS updates, but I’ve been on the same OS version and release of PP and AE for a long time.
Supremely helpful, I know, but your problem sounds similar enough that it seemed mildly relevant.

Here are some more details:
Its a Windows machine.
I am currently on AE 17.1.4. but I have also had the same issue on 17.0.1
I am using a SSD is samsung evo internal drive
The problem happens regardless of what hard drive is being used.
I have collected all the my project footage into one place on the same hard drive and the problem still persists.
The project I am testing is 19.9 MB. however it’s happening on all my projects
I Did the following test below.
If I click save without touching anything its taking 7 minutes to save
If I hit save and open a window in front of AE it only takes 3 seconds to save
Do you know why is this the case? Thanks

I’ve never heard of that sort of thing happening. Hopefully someone else has, but at least you have a way to speed things up in the meantime!

What plugins do you have installed, by the way?
I was talking with someone else about your issue and they know older versions of Stardust and Supercomp have both caused similar issues.
