  • Logic Board Change on MBP prompting FCP for new serial code?

Posted by Chris Gormlie on October 28, 2008 at 10:38 am

    Hi,

I’ve just had the logic board of my MBP changed and now FCP is asking for name/serial etc upon startup.

First, is this normal? It’s not some kind of malware phishing for serials? (over paranoid i know)

Secondly, where in the packaging IS my serial? I bought the system with FCS pre-installed, and while I have the big box with all the manuals and disks, I cannot for the life of me find any set of serials!

    any help much welcome. Thanks.

Well… A few phone calls later and I’ve got my answers.

YES a change of logic board will prompt for a legit request for the serials..

Also.. my vendor in their “wisdom?” keeps the original serials ‘on file’ and has just mailed me a copy of them. Seems like an odd system.. why not just keep a copy and trust me with the originals?

    anyways…panic over.

    cheers

    Glad you got your answers.

In the box with ALL the manuals and discs should be a 15 page document that says, “Installing Your Software.” There are two sets of serial number stickers on it.
