I’m ONE day old on FCP and for the life of me I cannot get the thing to import BPAV files from an external hard drive. I have the BPAV files within other folders named for the cards which I used.
I’ve tried log and transfer 2.1 and 2.11. I’ve also tried clip browser 2.6(I got that tip from the Cow) but nothing seems to work. Either the transfer tool crashes or FCP crashes.
I’m certain I’m leaving much out but after 6 hours of installing and downloading all these Sony versions I’m a bit weary.
    Help, Help, Help.
    Thanks.
    LM
    Ps. i’m on a 2×2.8 ghz quad
Pps. I’ve been on Avid for 15 years so I’m familiar with that particular workflow and it seems soooo much easier.

upgrade your FCP higher than 6.0.04, you will get the codec or sony XDCAM importer(free ware) that might help.

    thanks mike.
i had just tried that when your suggestion came thru.
i got rid of any and all versions of ex transfer that i had on my computer.
i downloaded the sony plug in for use with the fcp log and transfer.
i launched fcp, launched log and transfer and for an instant the tool recognizes the media and then
fcp crashes… it blinks off with the message that no other os apps were affected.

when i used the ex transfer 2.11(and other versions) then the opposite happened… ex transfer crashed and i got the no other apps affected message.

i’m thinking of uninstalling fcp(arduous process) and starting from scratch.

    any other suggestions?

    thanks.

Can you try using some other XDCAM media to see if it’s FCP or if it’s your media? I would try trashing the prefs, repairing permissions, etc. All that before a clean install of FCP. Usually it does not have to come to that.

    i’ll try that mike.
i have a number of different folders which contain BPAV folders for different projects and i’ve attempted to import some of those to no avail. i know the media is good because i’ve imported them as mxf into my avid mc.
i’ll try the preference files but i only installed yesterday so i don’t think that’s it but you’re right, it’s worth a try.
    thanks.
