Log and Capture VHS problem..Please Help!!!
Hi,
I am new to Final cut pro but think I have enough of the basics down to know that I can’t be too far off……but what am I doing wrong??? Maybe someone can help me???
I am running Final cut pro 7. I have a Canopus ADVC 110 firewire box hooked up. I am trying to convert my old VHS tapes to dvd.
I setup the Easy setup to DV NTSC. I must mention that I am in Europe and have acquired an NTSC VHS player from America. All my tapes are NTSC.
So I click on ‘Log & Capture’…all works fine. I get the video to preview….I press play on the VHS machine and then hit ‘Now’….it runs for a second then stops and I get this message:
‘Capture Now has reached the end of the tape. All existing footage between the point where you started the capture and the end of the tape was captured successfully’.
Not sure why this has happened….I have tried numerous times and every time it stops after a few seconds and gives me this message.
After being extremely frustrated I restarted the computer and to my surprise it didn’t do this……Instead it captured the 35 minutes I wanted to capture…..but split it up into 6 different files in the Bin. The last untitled file didn’t even have any video info in it????? Very weird……
So I am confused…all I want to be able to do is capture my VHS tapes but something seems to be stopping the process from being easy….In iMovie it was soooooo easy.
BTW…. I am using a Lacie 1TB FW800 External Hard drive as my scratch disk. I am using a Macbookpro 2,4 GHZ with 2GB Ram.
I have now switched my scratch disk to internal since I thought that maybe since the Macbookpro only has one FW hub that it might be overloading the system. I also switched my source from FW NTSC to non controllable device…..
Update: now I can atleast capture for longer than a few seconds……however now I capture and get this interruption: ‘Dropped frames were detected during the last captured event’
Why???? I have it set to 29.97.After I get that window the VHS still plays in the Log & Capture window but the capturing process has been terminated and nothing has been captured up to that point….really bothersome…
So here I am still wondering how to easily capture this video…..I only have about 25 VHs tapes to go so I am hoping this gets solved….
Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks
