Log And Capture Frozen – But Audio Ok
Hi Guys,
System specs:
G5 Dual 2ghz PPC
2Gb RAM
Tiger 10.4.11
ATI 9600 Pro
Kona2 5.1 Drivers
FCP 6.0.3
QT 7.4.5When I tried to capture, my log and capture window would play about 15frames, then lockup, and loop the 15frames over and over. So no video would be captured, but audio and TC came through no problem. I work at a post house, so our house ref is good, and we use lines to VTR so I know there isn’t a patching problem. Our setup has always proven successful. Also, I’ve proven that it’s not the VTR machine, since I’ve replicated the problem with different decks.
I’ve reinstalled the kona drivers, uninstalling with the kona uninstaller. I’ve updated to the latest QT and FCP (this was happening with 6.0.2 as well). All in vain. The only fix I’ve found is that if I reset the PRAM and NVRAM, it works fine. But if I switch user accounts it fails to work, and I have to reset the system and reset the PRAM and NVRAM again.
Any thoughts? Is there a PRAM and NVRAM test I can do?

Sounds more like your drives are wonky or can’t handle the throughput. What’s up with them?

If you mean my kona drivers, they should be fine. I’ve reinstalled then several times to be sure. Plus I’ve captured a 90 min show after I reset the PRAM and NVRAM, so I know the throughput is fine. Its only after I switch users, or I reset the system without reseting the ram, that I have the problems.
Can the PRAM and NVRAM go bad?

Not drivers, drives. Your HDs. What are you using? Are they initialized correctly? Have you been maintaining them?
