log and capture Beta SP
Posted by Greg Ball on November 19, 2006 at 1:40 amI’m trying to capture from a Sony PVW 2800 deck. I have a kona card, but I’m not seeing any video. FCP is telling me that there’s no video coming in. What settings should I be capturing in? Any thoughts? Thanks

November 19, 2006 at 2:42 amProbably should be using the Kona 8bit SD Easy Setup. Make sure you have the correct input selected in your Kona Control Panel.

November 19, 2006 at 9:52 amWhat Kona cards? What type of video? Does the 2800 output SDI, or are you using a Kona card with Analogue inputs? Component or composite? Is the format set correctly on the Kona control panel?
The more info you can give us, the more likely someone can give you a quick solution.

November 19, 2006 at 2:20 pmBEN: What Kona cards?
What I’ve done was build a dual boot system with Media 100 Hde on one and FCP 5.1 on the other. I’m using the aja OEM card that comes with the Media 100. The media 100 imports video perfectly from my pvw 2800.I went to the aja website and downloaded Version 3.3 drivers and control panel to my FCP set up. I got machine control, but no audio or video. The capture window just shows color bars.

I’m coming in and out as component Beta SP
BEN: Is the format set correctly on the Kona control panel?
That’s the bonus question. Where is the Kona control panel? How do I set the format?
Thanks so much for your help.

November 19, 2006 at 2:28 pmHow do you find and open the control panel? The output works fine as I’m using the same card on Media 100 Hde as part of a dual boot edit system. It’s not the card, but it could be the control panel.
Thanks for your help

Ok, in your first post, you said you had a Kona card.
I’m trying to capture from a Sony PVW 2800 deck. I have a kona card, but I’m not seeing any video.
Now you’re saying this is an OEM board that you used with the your Media 100. That’s NOT an AJA Kona card. That is a proprietary Media 100 board and you cannot use that with Final Cut Pro reliably. Even if it was manufactured by AJA, it’s not a Kona board and you cannot use the Kona drivers with it.
You need to purchase an actual AJA Kona board to use with Final Cut Pro or get an AJA Io.

November 19, 2006 at 5:31 pmThanks Walter,
Actually when I was putting this system together, I spoke with Media 100, and Aja. They both said this was possible. I just opened the kona control panel, and changed settings and it worked. I’m getting great looking video out of this board for FCP and on my other drive, I’m getting great looking video into Media 100! I now have two independent NLE systems working off one Mac G5 quad with one card. How cool is that?!
Thanks for your advice as always.

Finder – Applications – Kona Control Panel
or just use the little magnifying glass window and type in Kona Control Panel.
