log and capture
I’ve been using the “Capture Now” method to capture entire tapes, and somewhere along the line it got set up so that with each camera start/stop a new clip is created, so instead of one big clip I get 124 clips labeled “untitled 1”,2,3 etc.
so my questions are:
1- Is this in fact the default way to capture, and/or preferred or “normal” way to do things?
2- If not, how do I re-set the L & C so it doesn’t automatically make new clips?
3- What I’m wanting to do is cull out the usable bits and get rid of the obviously unusable footage before I send the files on to another editor. Is there a way to do the whole tape capture, but then go back and delete / jettison the garbage and just get it out of there so it’s not taking space up on the drive etc., or is this just something that has to be done at the time of capture by marking in and outs etc.?Thanks a lot,

1. I believe the more professional way of handling it is logging clips and then doing a batch capture.
2. Sorry, I don’t know because I usually don’t capture tape the way you are describing. Is your timecode breaking? If it is, that is probably why it is create many new clips.
If your timecode isn’t breaking, try marking an in point at the beginning of the tape, and out point at the end, log the clip, and then capture it.
