Locking / Unlocking Audio and Video
Just started using Vegas 6.0 – when I started my project I spent a lot of time searching the help files for an explanation on how to split the audio / video segments of a DV capture, for independent control. Couldn’t find it, but it wasn’t a big deal so I didn’t look too much more into it.
3/4 of the way through my 45 minute video, I hit something that split the audio and video without realizing it, and now the audio is off from the video. Since I didn’t realize it happened, I wasn’t paying attention to their position.
I’ll get that fixed, but was curious to know what I pressed?

You probably pressed the “S” key, for “Split.”

no, thats not it.
let me elaborate a bit more-
the dv capture is on two separate tracks in vegas. the video, and the audio. as a default they were locked, so if i moved the video footage, the audio would move with it. now, since i hit whatever key it was, the audio doesn’t move with the video. its ‘unlocked’.

OK, more info gets a better answer…
You’ve either hit the “U” key to “Ungroup” audio/video on a specific event, or you’ve toggled the “Ignore Event Grouping” button on your toolbar, which tells Vegas to ignore the grouping of audio/video.
Selecting Audio/Video of an event and hitting the “G” key for “Group” will regroup an event, and deselecting/toggling the Ignore Event Group button will restore event grouping. -
Thanks! That’s what I was looking for.
Really appreciate your responses! In Premiere it’s a tad different. I suppose I could have put 2 n 2 together, after all they are technically ‘grouped’. It’s the same in 3DS MACS.
