Can someone please explain locked and unlocked audio to me? I am trying to figure out the best way to output some footage to mini DV.

I have a very bare-bones Avid Xpress DV system on my home computer, and I use a Sony DC-TRV-17 to capture video. In the past, when I’ve taken tapes I mastered at home and tried to play them back on our Sony DSR-40 decks at work, I’ve gotten major audio sync drift and an “NS Audio” error light. I did a bit of looking into it on the web, and it seems that those problems are caused by using unlocked audio on my Avid. I’ve changed the audio project settings to “Locked,” but I’m in the middle of a project right now and I’m wondering if changing the setting will fix the problem without any redigitizing. Is my system even capable of locked audio?

    Thanks!

    Nina –

AFAIK, the locked setting will only affect what’s dig’d AFTER you changed the setting. If you had audio problems with footage prior to changing the setting, you’ll still have those problems.
