    Hey,

I was wondering if it were possible to live-capture 1080 or 720 footage via firewire straight from the HVX into Final Cut?

i know it’s doable in standard def, but hd i’m not so sure of…

    Thanks!

    Tinx,

It works great.. 1080 Firewire (32feet) to Mac Book Pro with Capture Now – Final Cut Pro to xpress card sata mirrored raid… Over 2+ hours and NO drop outs or other problems..

When you consider the cost of P2 cards and if you don’t mind being tethered to a computer, it is almost cheaper…. this way..

    Nate,

When outputting HD over firewire to MacBook Pro (fcp), can you also record SD to miniDV at the same time?

    Thanks.

    Nope.
When live capturing HD, you can’t record to miniDV at the same time.
However, I’m pretty sure for live capturing SD– you can capture miniDV.

    Bob,

You need to ask Shane, our MXO specialist…. but I am pretty sure the Matrox MXO which you would plug into the DVi monitor port does real time HD to SD conversion. That MXO SD you could plug into a DV deck….

    Good question

Great idea. Since I do have an MXO, that sounds like a winner. I’ll test it out.

    Thanks!

    Bob,

Since you have the MXO, how do you like it? How do you use it in your workflow?

Do you have the Matrox Dual or Triple head adaptors also?

I am updating my edit suite to the new Mac pro,, and Have been debating the value of the MXO..

I use it for monitoring HD on a 23″ Apple display while editing on my MacBook Pro. I use two LaCie eSATA drives attached to the MBP via an Expresscard adapter. It works great.

I really have not had the need to use the MXO in any other way yet, but am aware of its functionality as a downconverter. I’ll give it a try.

    Thanks again.
