Lists of Sequences in Text or PDF form

I’m not in front of FCP right now, but could you nest all the sequences in one sequence, then export an edl of that, and get rid of the superfluous info, leaving the sequence names?

Beyond that, copy/pasting the 400 sequence names won’t take more than an hour or two. It’s unpleasant, but would probably be quicker than trying to find a way to automate it.

EDIT: – Another idea – if you can’t take the time to do the data entry, you could probably grab screenshots and use Amazon Mechanical Turk to have the work done.

sounds like you need to export a BATCH LIST from your browser.

you might also be able to export a batch list from the find results window,
which would make life a bit simpler,
as you could do a search across all open projects for Type contains Sequence.

obviously if you can’t export batch list from Find Results,
run the search,
copy all,
and paste into new project.

that might be the way to go as 20 projects open at one time might be asking for trouble.

1) Final Print will work, just will cost me $125 for this one job. Ughh

2) Nick…do you know some trick for FCP7 to Batch List from the browser to get sequence names? I have yet to be able to do that. I am happy, to open each project and Batch List the sequence names, just can’t make this happen.

3) For now, going with the tedious, and a little error prone, copy and paste.

right… sequences not included in batch lists… how backward is that?!

ok, here’s a workaround IF all your sequences are rendered

batch export all sequences,
video only,
NON self contained,

you’ll get a corresponding .mov for each sequence,
bring ’em all into FCP,
THEN make a batch list.

if your sequences aren’t rendered, and if you don’t need the duration as part of your database,
you could simply open each and set an in/out of one second or a few frames,
and then batch export

(Or export as a jpeg, perhaps???)

batch export has the cool advance of NOT adding a .mov, or other file-type extension to the exported files unless you ask,
so you wont have to wrangle that.

any other way i can think of requires some sort of copy / paste

obviously a jpeg or any format other than QUicktime movie, Item Settings WONT have the codec & frame rate details you want.

Ok, Nick you led me in the right direction so thank you!!

Here is a poor solution, but one none-the-less.

A) Batch Export the sequences you want.
B) In Batch Export, set up the batch as a Still Image. Make sure to click OFF “use in and out”
C) Export to a folder

Now you have list in the Finder you can copy and paste. Also its fast and you haven’t used much disk space.

Its not ideal and you loose some column info, but at least you can get an accurate list of sequences!

Glad it worked, Doug.

and i learnt something:
i never realised you could copy / paste a list of items in the finder.
still if you brought them back into FCP, you’d at least get the frame size, if that’s of interest.
