    Hi everyone,

Has anyone compiled a list of what functions in Motion are most accelerated by the GPU vs. CPU?

I noticed after upgrading from the stock 9600 (64MB) in my G5 to an X800XT (256MB)that some things (like text sequence behaviors) didn’t get any faster at all, while my ability to throw and grow layers seemed to have a nice bump.

More GPU specifics: Any analysis as to which functions benefit more from greater quantity of VRAM and which are helped more by the speed of the GPU processor?

And of course which things are completely CPU dependent…

I would love to have this kind of list not just for Motion but also for FCP.

    All the best,

The GPU does the final compositing. The CPU calculates motion paths (eg particles). RAM determines how much (duration) of real time playback you get. Damian Allen’s book gives a very good overview of how this all works.
