Lines in Typewriter text
Hello, hope you can help.
Using standard FCP typewriter text over moving images I find when converted to DVD via Compressor and DVD Studio and then played on HD Ready TV, lines appear in the text.FCP Version 5.1.4
Using white text Arial 28pt.
Flicker filter set to max. This is due to flickering on text on previous versions.
Timeline set to PAL DV standard def.Is there a way to eliminate the lines without having the flicker from the Interleaving? Be grateful for any suggestions.

What do you mean lines? Can you make a screen capture with Apple’s grab tool and post a picture?
Is the type too bright? Tried knocking down the brightness or using the broadcast safe filters?
Does the typ have any drop shadow behind it? I find that helps a lot.
If the serrifs on the font are too thin, then you get a vibration effect from alternate felds showing and obscuring the edges. Try bumping the font to a bold version?

Yes I use a drop shadow. Lines are simply missing text image on single scan line.
This does not show up on my playback CRT monitor or the FCP editing screen. A grab would not show it.
As it’s Arial, there are no serifs.
Believe it is posssibly due to suppressing interpolation through the flicker filter. But if filter not used then text flickers on output. Is this normal for FCP?Many thanks for thoughts so far.

I’m having this same problem with the lines in my typewriter text. Did you ever find a resolution?

Erin, I’m afraid not. In the end I gave up and used bullet lines timed to VO. Normal text worked fine. Not so elegant, but life is too short.

Hello Michael, I know you said you had replaced the typewriter with bullets, and I’m not sure if we were having the same problem, but I finally figured out how to correct my problem with just putting a de-interlace filter on the clip! Just thought I would let you know in case you wanted to use the feature in the future!
