Linear workflow and red footage
I know someone here can clear up my linear workflow woes…
Basically I have RED greenscreen 32 bit footage that I’m keying / compositing over some CGI animated plates. I want to work in a linearized 709 color space for the more “natural” effects and modes.
I have my project settings set to a 32 bit, 709, linear working space.
a) My footage is way dark, why is this??
b) if I turn on use display color managemnt for 709 space ,under the view menu, the clips look normal again. Ok. Good.
c) When I render a .tif out with an embedded 709 profile it looks REALLY close to the normal look of the clips, just a little bit washed out, but not bad. Ok
d) But I want to use my monitor and HD television to view my work as I’m working, but using display color management in after effects doesnt effect my output to my monitors. Why is this???
e) should i assign the profile of my working space to my imported footage??
What do I do here? Just trust my LCD monitor for everything? I’m a bit lost on this linear workflow process.

You should assign the color profile to your footage (interpret footage).
You should not trust your LCD monitor unless it is a expensive high resolution and color depth monitor that is calibrated dailyTudor “Ted” Jelescu
