Lighting advice for a newbie
I am shooting a series for web using inexpensive canon HF100s (3) and a couple cheap mini DV cams for b-roll. The subject matter: bands in a recording studio. Unfortunately, I am an audio engineer, not a cinematographer. The rooms we film in are different sizes, and vary in lighting.
Currently we use a combination of the lights we use for typical recording sessions with a few extra lights and lamps thrown in for extra fill and vibe.
My question for the experts is: what would be the best way to light a large room (20’x24′), white walls with instruments everywhere. Usually there are 3-4 band members in the room. So ideally we would have equal/interesting light for the whole space. The challenge is, we would like to keep the atmosphere as close to a typical session as possible. That means lower, “moodier” light.
I am willing to purchase some gear, but of course, as you can tell, we are on a tight budget.
You can see the space at https://www.freqcontrol.com
Any and all help is much appreciated.
