light sweep effect…
Posted by Jeffrey A dear on June 10, 2005 at 10:53 amI’m looking to incorporate a light sweep effect with text. Does motion or livetype have such an effect? Recommend?
Thanks,
Jeffrey

You can achieve some pretty decent light sweeping effects using the (built-in) Light Rays filter in Motion.

June 10, 2005 at 8:44 pmIt seems like the Light Rays filter only uses the color of the object it’s applied to and doesn’t allow you to pick a different color. Do you have a workaround for that?
Thanks!

I played with this a bit and for text, it’s easy enough to make a duplicate of the text and make the background text the color of the rays you want.

June 13, 2005 at 9:51 pmWith text, I also found that you can fake noise in the rays by filling the text face with a Clouds generator texture. The seething black/white texture breaks up the light rays so that they’re not so geometrically perfect.
