When lifting a clip from a sequence, FCP hangs for 30-60 seconds (spinning beach ball). It eventually rights itself and I can continue working. All other edit functions behave normally. Other projects don’t have this problem. Any idea what the problem may be?

Sounds like you’re running out of RAM… and a disk caching is causing the slow down… Could be something else I suppose, are you mixing the two formats in the same sequence? what is the sequence setting?

RAM was my first guess, but Activity Monitor shows at least 500 Meg of RAM headroom at all times. I have plenty of room on my root drive for VM. Sequence settings are 1080i HDV. I am mixing a little bit of DV in with my HDV show.
