I posted this on OS X forum. Curtis gave some good advice but I’m not comfortable just deleting stuff. Thought FCP folk might recognize this problem.

Macbook pro 2.5 GHz 4gb memory

    Getting sluggish performance.

So I checked my hard drive

    Hard drive 232 GB

    Only 27.5 remaining.

    So its 88% full.

I like to keep it under 80%.

My Apps take only 8 GB

My documents folder only 23 GB

My entire users folder 50 GB.

But my root level library is 60 GB.

FCS library alone is at 16 GB.

I didn’t think libraries should be taking this much space.

Is my system set up wrong?

Do I just need a bigger internal HD?

Soundtrack Pro has about 20 GB of samples in the Library/Audio

If you don’t use that, trash it.

Motion and DVD studio Pro also have big libraries 10GB each.

Garageband also has a pretty big sound libary.

Clean my Mac is a great little app for cleaning aswell.

That, and you need another harddrive.

correct. use external esata raid. That’s why I was surprised how full I was. all media off system drive. docs and apps take only a modest share. Why am I full? Oh FCS stores gigs of stuff in libraries.
