Hi. I’m editing a film which was shot on 16MM, some at 1.33 and some at 1.66. The director wants to match the footage to the 1.66 aspect ratio, which I told him was easy to do, as FCP has a widescreen plugin. However, there are a few frames which are a bit crooked and in my attempts to straighten them, the 1.66 bars also tilt with the image.

Thus far, I’ve discovered no way around this problem. Is is possible to create a 1.66 matte in Photoshop and lay it over the footage? If so, does anyone have any pointers on how to do this? My Photoshop skills are not that great. Thanks.

Just put slugs on layers 2 and 3, then move one up and the other down until they match your other footage.
