Letterbox black bars on top and bottom
Hi,
What’s the best way to put letterbox black bars on a timeline? I’ve found sites that allow you to download a letterbox file and place it on top of the timeline, and then they tell you to adjust the alpha channel. I don’t know what this means, so can someone please tell me the best way to do this? Whether it’s a download file or just a custom job when you use the “letterbox matte” or whatever it’s called in the import window.

Go into the title designer…open the templates where there should be a directory named “Mattes”.
There will be a file called “Matte letterbox” that will give you the black top and bottom with transparency in the middle.
Save it as a title and place it on a layer above all your editing video tracks…v5 or v8 or whatever…and edit underneath, using your Effect Control-position parameter to move any 4:3 footage up and down to optimize what’s visible.
Works nicely.
