  • Let me kiss BMD’s toosh in advance (72×144)

I just finished my first design of a major facility that will incorporate the new (unreleased) Blackmagic Broadcast Videohub, that has 72×144 crosspoints. I put every damn HD-SDI and SDI crosspoint (like VTR HD AND SDI output) on the router, and other things like video games (with CAV to SDI converters), and I am done at 30 crosspoints. So I can DOUBLE the size of this facility in the future(doubtful), and I will have PLENTY of room to expand.

What does this mean ? It means that the Blackmagic Broadcast Videohub 72×144 is an UNBEATABLE product, with insane room for expansion of ANY post facility (unless you are a major TV station, or massive LA post house that has 100 edit rooms).

Thank you Blackmagic for coming out with this product at an unheard of low price.

    Hi Bob

Thank you very much! Its always really nice to hear such an enthusiastic reception of our products, especially for those that are yet to be released! (But are on the way very soon!)

I think the real challenge will be to use EVERY single input and output on the Broadcast Videohub, it’s potential for expansion is just phenomenal. The Broadcast Videohub is really easy to use and setup too, especially with the ability to control it over the network, via one machine with a USB connection, just like the Workgroup Videohub. (And the utility updates instantly to reflect changes made over the network.)

I think you’ll also be pleasantly suprised with the packaging and accessories too, it really is a fantastic product!

    Thanks again Bob.

Can you put the analog (component and composite) signals through that too?

[jason levy] “Can you put the analog (component and composite) signals through that too?”

As Bob said “…and other things like video games (with CAV to SDI converters)” which means a ‘Composite audio/video converter’, which also applies to any ‘Component audio/video converter’ too. Its just a pity that not many people provide audio embedding with these devices and those that do drive Ferrari’s as they are making so much money out of them!

It begs the question: why are component to SDI/HD-SDI converters so much cheaper that AES to SDI/HD-SDI embedders when there is a much larger bandwidth to encode AND 3 channels of it. Even composite to SDI/HD-SDI are far cheaper, and they have to do a massive decode of the composite into component before it gets A to D’d into the digital stream! Yeah I know I have pealed off the original topic but as Bob also said “it is an UNBEATABLE product” (the broadcast hub) and I have to agree just basing my experience on the 12×24 version of the product… (now if only BMD offered an upgrade deal….)

What would I do without the ‘UNDO’ button!!!!

there is great misconception from SO MANY PEOPLE about routers. People for years have said to me “we don’t want a patch bay, lets use a router”, but simply don’t understand the costs involved in multi level multi format routers (for anlaog composite, analog component, SDI, HD-SDI, analog HD, analog audio, AES audio, TC, RS422). They think that you just stick “anything” in there , and it just works.

Blackmagic has released a new converter line at NAB at LANDMARK LOW PRICES that has forced even AJA to lower their prices. Let me be clear – these prices are lower than Miranda, Cobalt Digital, Leitch, Evertz, or ANY ONE ELSE IN THE PRO VIDEO MARKET. But there ain’t no free lunch. You just don’t “plug in” your Beta VTR and have it work in an HD or SDI environment. So “when will this happen” – you ask?
NEVER EVER EVER. Analog component (and analog composite) is over, and it’s become a SDI world, even though ALL OF US own Beta VTR,s and have to deliver Beta masters. Blame Sony.

Blackmagic has released converters to allow you to get your Beta VTR’s (and other products) into a router like this at UNHEARD OF LOW PRICES. But ITS NOT FREE, and its not Blackmagic’s fault. Companies like Sony, Panasonic, AVID and others want to CONTINUE to charge BIG MONEY, and its companies like Blackmagic that are SAVING YOUR ASS. So BOW DOWN to Saint Petty, and sing your praises, because without him, NONE OF THIS would be possible, and you would be working for the local grocery store.

(ps, how can I use the SRW-5500 with the Intensity card ?)

But can I plug in my iPhone???

Wish I could throw out the stupid Beta SP deck. Amazing how many broadcasters still want that dreck.
