    Hey Avid users

I want a clip to defocus at the end, as if focus was pulled on the camera.

As I understand things, my MC v4.0.5 with BCC AVX 6 is not able on it’s own..?

I was thinking I’d download a trial of BCC AVX 7 which I understand has a filter called Lens Blur, although, I’m not sure if it’ll work with MC v4 (or if u need DS), not sure if it’ll b as easy as downloading the free trial, installing it, it working and not causing my MC to throw a wobbly after trial expires.

I’ve also seen a tutorial for BCC Lens Blur online and BCC had an interface. With my BCC AVX 6 I don’t seem to have an interface (or even a start icon) only many BCC effects in MC. Am I missing something..?

BTW I’m very tempted to by the AVX 7 plug-in (and a tutorial DVD to get the most out of it) but wonder whether I’d get value for money because I’m not a full time editor; I just shoot some corporate interviews, presentations n stuff for our family business.

Thanks in advance cause I know how helpfully u CreativeCow guys r!

If you render the effect, then it won’t get wonky after the trial ends. It’s only an issue if you want to go back and change something. If you really want to be sure, export the shot as a QT/same as source and bring it back in. That way, the effect is bake in and won’t matter at all what happens to the plug-in license at that point. But there too, no more changes. I would suggest making several versions of the effect if you do that so you can always change your mind if needed.

Hi Michael and thanks for responding,

I was more worried that I would download the BCC AVX 7 trial, install it and it would all work fine, then after the trial runs out my Media Composer would fail to start altogether giving some error message regarding licensing or something – I guess this worries me because with the BCC 6 I have installed at present, the only place I can access the filters is in my MC and I’ve too way many important projects on at the moment to risk breaking it.

If u think that I should b able to install the trial BCC 7, that the extra filters would appear in my Avid and that when the trial runs out, all my BCC filters would disappear, until I reinstalled 6 and then I would b back to where I started (only with my desired lens blur) then it’s worth giving it a go – if u think there is even a chance it might break my MC, then I’d prefer not to risk it; I want the lens blur effect, but not THAT much!

PS. Am I right in thinking that there’s no dedicated interface for BCC 6 but there is with 7?
