Layers rotate around each other?
Posted by Chuck Obernesser on March 28, 2008 at 4:28 pmIs it possible to make two separate layers rotate around each other. I have a arrow layer and a kind of star layer. i want to make the arrow layer rotate around the start layer. Is it possible?
Thanks

March 28, 2008 at 5:04 pmTry parenting a Null object to the Star and moving it to the center of the Star layer (position: [0,0,0]), then parenting your arrow to the Null. Rotate the Null and the arrow will rotate around the center of the star. If you need more specific help, feel free to ask.

March 28, 2008 at 5:17 pmMake them both 3D layers, then move the arrow’s Z position away from the star layer. Add a null, make it a 3D layer and parent the arrow layer to the null. Animate the null’s rotation to rotate the arrow around the star.

March 28, 2008 at 5:28 pmThanks folks. I am close to that but I should have been more descriptive. I need to in a sense bend the arrow around. to make it look like it is revolving around the star. I used the cc sphere and cc cylinder. Both of those didn’t allow me to place the star in the middle. And the arrow need to be angled.
Thanks

March 28, 2008 at 6:03 pmI did try to use the puppet tool and it didn’t make the arrow bend correctly. The seemed to bend and bunch up. I tried from the act. cam view, top view and rt. view. But back in the org. view it was all bent up and pushed together. I also tried to use motion sketch and it kept giving me a error window. If u need to know what the object looks like you can find the logo at…

March 28, 2008 at 6:05 pmCC Sphere and CC Cylinder both have render options that allow you to fake the effect. You need two arrow layers with the star layer in between on the timeline. Set the top arrow layer render option to “outside” and the bottom arrow layer to “inside”. If you want to change the angle of arrow rotation, pre-comp the arrow layers individually and then rotate the pre-comps.

March 28, 2008 at 6:32 pmJason, When you had the arrow rotate, did u set that up before your pre-comped or after. And when u did precomp did u place them in a 3d state?
thanks
