  • Layers moving when making 3D?

Posted by Alex Creamer on March 8, 2016 at 12:00 pm

Hi, so Im using a lot of camera movements throughout my video and my camera is moving from one place to the other. However, when I make a layer 3D, is flies all the way back to the beginning of where I first created my camera and I have to manually move it back into position. How do I prevent this from happening and just having the layer stay where it currently is whenever I turn on the 3D layer?

you can hit crtl + home to bring it closer to the center of your current camera view after you turn it 3d. You can’t keep it in place with the default options AE provides.

There is a plugin that transforms the layer to keep it in place, but that not allways get the desired result since you can have infinite variations in transformation and have the same visual position. (ex. bring it forward in Z and reduce scale)

Check out my free script keen_3dLayerTools. It allows you to promote a 2D layer to 3D while preserving apparent positioning.
