    Hello.

I am a newbie in After Effects and have some troubles with it:

I have made a new Composition, with a movie in it.

On the line above this movie in the Composition, I have made a new Solid Layer and made it Blue.

In my movie in the Composition again, I have made a Mask and inverted it. But when I do so, the Mask only gets Black and not Blue. I was thinking, that when I inverted a Mask, it made it transparent, so that I here can see the Layer above.

    I must have misunderstood something…..

What am I doing wrong ??

Hope, that someone can assist 🙂

[ola sanda] “I was thinking, that when I inverted a Mask, it made it transparent, so that I here can see the Layer above. “

In an Ae comp, upper layers cover lower layers.

Masks cut holes in layers so you can see through them, downwards. Inverting a mask doesn’t let you see through it upwards; rather, it it says “mask the area outside of my mask path” instead the normal “mask the area inside my mask path.”

When I make this mask and make it inverted, it works fine.

Although the masked area is a lot brighter, so when I look at the Composition, I can clearly see, that it has been masked.

Do You know how to get around this ?

The same thing happens, when I rotoscope objects in a layer, meaning these also are showing much brighter.

Can you post a screen shot of your entire UI, including both the viewer that shows the issue and the timeline with mask properties shown?

The masked area is right below the apple.

What I want is to remove the matchbox from below the apple and therefor I masked the matchbox and inverted it.

But as You saw the masked area brightens up.

    Any suggestions ?

[ola sanda] “What I want is to remove the matchbox from below the apple and therefor I masked the matchbox and inverted it. But as You saw the masked area brightens up.”

Masking the matchbox with inverted add is cutting a hole in the Bartal layer and revealing the Telda layer beneath it.

Is that Telda layer brighter than the Bartal layer? Perhaps it was exposed differently?

If so, you will need to adjust the layers to match with color correction effects.

    Hi Walter.

Thank You so much, it helps me a lot ! 🙂

Tried with 2 other layers, that had the exact same exposure, and here it works very well, so Your totally right ! 🙂

    Thanks again 🙂
