I have a projects with many video tracks layered on top of each other.

I use different blend modes, but mostly just set to add.

    Sometimes the transitions are fine.

But mostly right at the beginning of a new track of video it cuts in when it should be smooth transition.

Any thoughts as to why this is happening?

    Thanks,
    Andy

Are you combining your layers into a compound clip, then adding the transition?

Andy, I find the way blend-modes and transitions work very inconsistent still. One of the really huge problems in X still.

it seems to be a problem in the order at which FCPX applies the blend modes.

You can try to open the video-animation tab (CTRL-V) and fade the clip with the opacity slider. Sometimes that helps.

Sorry for the bad info 🙁

Nope, however, I did try making compound clips of all the layered clips with their respective transitions.
