i have a 3 layer composition and want the top layer’s mask to also mask the layers below it… but one of the layers is rotated so when i copy and paste the mask it is also rotated on that layer… how do i get the layer mask on the top most layer to “drill down” through the other layers correctly?

I’m not quite clear on your requirements for this mask. But there are a couple of ways to potentially do what you want to.

One would be putting the masked layer at the bottom of the stack and setting those above to “Preserve Transparency” (its a layer switch, check in the Layer menu).

Another would be to leave it at the top and set the layer’s blend mode to Stencil Alpha.

Yet another would be to pre-comp your layers and apply the mask to the nested composition.
