When I play the audio of a selected layer by pressing the period key on my numeric keypad the audio plays ok. But when I press the asterisk key to place markers the timeline scrubber snaps back to the beginning of the timeline, and the audio stops completely. I have a laptop so to access the numeric keypad I’m holding down the function key, and then the period key; then the asterisk.

For another alternative I’ve tried doing RAM previews of just the audio with the video swithches turned off; low res and a fraction of the comp size. I keep getting the same error message that I don’t have enough memory to render X amount of audio; try making the work area smaller which I’ve done. The work area is about 15 seconds long, and it still keeps telling me I have a gazillion frames of audio and to make it a smaller work area.
Maybe it’s a problem with the preferences?

    help!!!!!!

    thank you
