  • Lavalier Mic with portable recorder?

Posted by Eric Marx on December 10, 2007 at 7:27 pm

    Hi,

I have an iriver ifp-799 and want to use it with a lavalier mic since it has a 1/8″ mic input (not just line).

Can anyone tell me whether a Countryman EMW with a 1/8″ (3.5mm) connector will work with this? The EMW seems to be designed for wireless systems.

If not, are there any other high-end lav mics you could recommend that would work for recording conversations in noisy environments?

    Thanks,

    Eric

The Countryman (and most other pro-level mics, condenser-types) require battery power (1 volt, or so) to operate.

Wireless transmitters provide that power on their inputs.
A portable recorder (iRiver, in this case) will likely NOT provide this, unless it specifically says so.
