  • Lav vs. Headphone boom?

I’ve been noticing more and more people using the headsets that have the mini boom mics rather than lavs.

1.) Is the quality of the mini headset boom much better for simple interviews or news than the lavs?
2.) What is the optimal location to place the mini boom? To the side of the mouth, in front of the mouth, etc?

    Thanks.

Hello Stan and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum,

High quality headset or Ear mics like the Countryman E6 work better than boom mics in noisy or reflective environments because the mic element is inches from the mouth. Put the E6 along the cheek.

The E6 is the same element a the B6 lav. A high quality lav.

NEVER in front of the mouth unless it’s one of those clunky telex intercom headsets.

    Regards,
