Laser Welder
Hey everyone
I have a fairly large project I’m working on, and still rather infantile to AE. I know my way around, but I’m not sure how to approach this
I’ve got a Logo, which I have split in half with a “zig zag” pattern. I have taken the peices off frame, and created an animation that merges the halves together. The next part I am stuck on
I want to create a “laser weld” effect that brings a laser beam from off frame, and sets the focal point to where the segments join together to make it appear as though they are being wleded together. I know I have to create a path, and parent the laser to the path. The problem is, I’m not sure how to create the laser effect.
I thought about using the lightsaber preset from Andrew Kramer in order to make the “laser” but certainly there has to be a better way?

As previously mentioned, a beam effect is probably what you want to do. Adding some sparks using your favorite particle plug-in will help a lot and adding a bit of a glow using an animated mask on an adjustment layer will do wonders to sell the effect too.
