Large Volume Backup Solution?
Hello,
I’m investigating some solutions to backing up a large and extensive digital film library. We are a online movie distributor and looking to build a backup solution to our library.
We primarily work off a 12TB Array connected with FW800 shared on WIFI through Apple’s File Sharing ability. We use this as our scratch disk to convert, compress, catalog and archive a vast number of movies. We are limited in a long term solution and I’m afraid of what might happen if this primary scratch disk fails, gets damaged from fire or water, or gets stolen, without a backup.
Our scenario:
- We are currently at 5TB of space.
- Files formats include: MOV, MP4, M4V, JPG, PDF, PSD, PNG
- We expect to be using 10TB of space by the end of the year.
- We expect to be filling 1-2TB of space every month starting in 2013.
We’re considering all options. Backing up to a Cloud or to an offsite NAS. Some questions regarding this:
- Any recommended Apple compatible software that can manage a scheduled back up of the above to either a cloud or external networked NAS?
- Any recommendations on a expandable NAS?
- Any cheap cloud storage solutions that can manage dozens of TB of storage in a year?
We’re also considering just building a NAS in the office and after backing up, storing the drives at a location off-site. Seems the most cost efficient solution. What recommendations are there for a reliable NAS with expandable capability and hot-swappable drives?
