  • large AI file in AE still blurry? {URGENT}

Posted by Hymn Wong on June 3, 2008 at 4:33 am

    Hi there,

I’ve followed the tutorial of Rick Gerard: using a 3d camera: Animating Along a Path
    ( https://library.creativecow.net/articles/gerard_rick/AEWeekly2.php )

however, my AI file is pretty large because the road is quite long (3000×3000 pixels),
    in the comp camera,
the road looks very blurry.. although it’s an AI file… (which it shouldn’t be blurry!)
i’ve already tried the “collapse transformation”, but got the same blurry-ness
does anybody know why this happens? does anyone know how to fix this??

very urgent, thanks for the help!

composition shutter is default 180 or render out shutter is 180, which might be blurry.

eventhough i changed any of these settings,
the road is still blurry… even from the top view..

Draft 3D Disables lights, shadows, and cameras’ depth-of-field blur. To turn Draft 3D mode on or off, click the Draft 3D button at the top of the Timeline panel.

    or…

Try these 3d-camera settings and set all layers to high quality and view the changes…

    Angle Of View,Enable Depth Of Field,Focus Distance,Lock To Zoom ,Aperture,F-Stop,Blur Level,Film Size,Focal Length,Units,Measure Film Size

i’ve found out that, if i use camera 200mm preset,
the road is much clearer, but the focus is off the road..
but if i e.g. use 35mm preset, the camera focus is on the road but blurry..

what can i do to have nice crisp visuals, and the camera focus on the road?

    thanks!

The presets are not strong enough for your large separation of layers. Use manual settings of large focal lenths makes larger depth of field, smaller f-stops also do that like f-22 or higher etc.,

i tried to manipulate them manually too… but all the same..
isn’t there a way just to render vector fine graphics?

I would check playback quality (full, half, etc). Sometimes I overlook this while I’m working quickly.

The other thing I would do (more out of personal preference) is export the AI to a high resolution PSD file since you are working in a raster based program anyway (AE). Just make sure to export it at a very high resolution.

i think it has to do with the camera settings,
but can’t find the right settings,
these are the settings what i have now for the camera:

    Zoom: 1000
    Film Size: 102.05
    Angle of View: 131
    Focal Length: 23.26
    Units: pixels
    Measure Film Size: Horizontally

the rest i leave them unchecked

(only with Zoom set to 1000, i can see the road correctly, but blurry, outfocused?)

    Hi Hymn

It might mess things up if you have 3D layers or pre-comps involved, but have you already tried turning the continuous rasterization box on for your AI layer? I tried looking at the tutorial you were working from, but could not view it. Hopefully that helps… if not, I am sure that someone here will definitely find the answer for you!

    all the best!

Have you tried the “Continuously Rasterize” toggle setting?
