For DVCPro HD I would look start with RECOMMANDED System Requirement for editing software that you will be using.

i have a new Dell Inspiron 6400 with extra upgrades (Ram, Processor, some lcd screen upgrade coating ). it has firewire(and a lot usb 2) input and i can run easy Premier PRo 2 and After effects 7 at the same time.

Also look at the DV9000t series from HP. That’s one of the few that offer dual 7200RPM SATA Drives.
