    1. Trying to configure a MBP 15″, wondering whether how much RAM to buy. Was planning to buy either 4gb RAM from Apple, or take the minimum 2gb from Apple and add either 2gb or 4gb from Crucial. Which would you advise?

    2. MBP vs. MB. I am going to be using my desktop Intel MacPro for 95% of my FCP work, so I’m considering backing off from the MBP. I know the conventional wisdom is to buy the MBP, and I’ve always assumed that’s what I’d do. But except for the smaller screen, the new standard MB looks every bit as capable as my client’s first-generation MBP, which I have been using since the MBPs came out. At half the price… what do you think?

    1) Apple will charge you $200, Crucial will charge you $104. Seems like an easy choice to me!

    2) I still think the MBP is worth the price. Yes, the MB is powerful, but having the firewire 800 port, video card, and express slot are things that will probably come in handy some day for you, even if you don’t think so right now. Not to mention the extra screen space, which is very handy when working in Final Cut.

Thanks. I forgot about the Firewire and the express slot!

Also the video card on a MB will use the computers ram for the video ram where the MBP has dedicated video ram.

[Bob Cole] “or take the minimum 2gb from Apple and add either 2gb or 4gb from Crucial.”

you will need to get 4, as apple will ship it with 2 1gig sticks, not 1 2gig stick.

will still save you money though!
