Kona2 Card Keeps Disappearing
I’ve been working on a 100% SD project for the last couple of weeks, capturing from and mastering to a BetaSP deck via our AJA IO. And I’ve used the system pretty much as-is for both SD & HD projects for over a year:
Dual 2.5GHz G5
3 gigs ram
AJA Kona 2 1.03 drivers
Final Cut 4.5
OSx 10.3.6As I began to prep for a big project for which I need to capture tons of DVCProHD footage (downconverted to SD) I noticed my Kona2 Control Panel told me there was no Kona2 present.
Last week I shut down, unplugged, opened the case and ensured the card was properly seated. Replugged, safe booted, repaired permissions, restarted, repaired permissions again and the Kona2 showed up fine. Great, I thought… I can dive in first thing Monday and went home.
This morning, my systems tells me there’s no Kona2 card. I uninstalled the Kona2 Software, unplugged, opened ‘er up and removed the card this time. Blew a little canned air across everything just in case. Put it all back, safe booted, repaired permissions and restarted. No Kona2.
Any ideas? Anybody had a disappearing card before?

does the system see the card in system profiler?
what does the info palette say in the Kona Control panel?
run the conflict catcher software,what version of QT, the current driver for Kona is 8-10 revs from yours, and the recommended systems for FCP4.5 is 10.3.8 / QT 6.5.2

Kona2 card has gone bad. There are two green LEDs on the actual card. From what I understand, one confirms power to the card and the other shows PCI-X communication — or something like that. One of mine does not light up so I get a squeaky-new Kona2 card from FedEx tomorrow.
Yay.
