I just got a new Kona Card installed into our editing system and we are having a couple of problems. I try to bring a 720/30p P2 media into FCP and it plays on the timeline fine, it does not play out to our external monitor. I have been through the Aja Control Panel and changed the outputs to several different things, is there something I am missing? or is this an FCP problem. I will post a different thread in the FCP forum. If anybody could shed some light onto this problem that would be great!

Set your video output to 720p59.94 8 bit.

I do that I set final cut to that setting and then bring my footage to the timeline, I get an error:

For best performance your sequence and external video should be set to the format of the clips you are editing.

I click Yes and the viewer in FCP shows the footage fine, but my external monitor that is running through the Kona card does not, It just tells me there is no sync and every second the clip flashes onto the screen.

    Any suggestons?

    Okay.

    • Hit control-q to bring up the easy setups.
    • Choose the AJA Kona DVCPro HD 23.98 VFR setting.
    • Make a new sequence.
    • Hit command-zero with that sequence selected to bring up the sequence setting. Change the frame rate to 29.97.
    • Add a clip to the timeline and you should get no error.
    • Edit.

You must not be looking in the right place.

    It looks like this:

I do not have AJA KONA 3, I have AJA KONA LH…the only DVC PRO HD options are

    LH – 720p 59.94 DCVproHD
LH- 720p 25 DVCpro HD VFR
LH – 1080 psf DVCpro HD VFR

It’s okay. Yours will just say Kona LH instead of Kona 3.

Make sure that you put the frame rate to ‘all rates’ in the top right hand corner.

It kinda works!!!! I get my video on my external monitor but the monitor keeps dipping to black every now and again, could that be a connection problem or a setting problem? Its alot better than what I had before but still there is no consistent image on my external monitor, it blinks to black.

What kind of monitor do you have and what kind of connection?
