  • KONA SD in a Dual 2.0 GHz G5 HELP!!!!!

Posted by Elmcity on January 3, 2006 at 7:52 pm

I have a dual 2.0 GHz G5 that I’ve just placed an older Kona SD card in. Everything seems fine when video is stilled, however the image appears to breakup when you move your mouse around on the desktop, or when playing video down in FCP 5.

According to an earlier post I read that Luke had replied to, the firmware might have to be upgraded, but I’m not seeing “sparkles” as much as there is video breakup, could it be anything else?

    Sincerly,
    Rick

    Dual 2.0 GHz G5
    2.5 GB RAM
    Kona SD – Slot 3
    G-Raid FW 800 Drive

Try putting the card in a slower PCI slot. Like #3. When I put my SD into the 133 slot, it freaked out kinda like what you’re seeing.

how many ram slots has this dual 2Ghz.
if only 4 ram slots: those machines have problems with their PCI slots… wont get good, its a problem with timing on the pci slots…

    Rick –

Were you ever able to work this out ? and if so how ?

I have run into the same problem, moved the Kona SD card to slot 3 (from slot 4) and still have same trouble (this G5 has 8 RAM slots so it doesn’t seem to be the other problem mentioned)

    any help would be appreciated

    thanks,
