Kona LS – Insert Edit accurarcy
Hi,
I’ve got a Kona LS system running on OSX 10.3.9 (still) and the latest Kona LS driver 2.0 and when we try to do an insert (In/Out) on a DigiBeta, we get a half frame of black at the out point on tape. The in point recording is accurate.
We tried the playback offset in the Device Control setting and when we don’t get the black at the out point, the in point recording became inaccurate.
We have black reference fed to both the Kona LS (via KL-BOX) and the DigiBeta.
Anyone encountered something similar ?

That half frame of black has nothing to do with timecode offset. My guess is that your deck isn’t capable of insert editing, or that you may not have the deck in the proper edit mode. Which model deck is it?

Hi Arnie,
The deck is a DigiBeta DVW-A500P (PAL model). Will try with another deck to see if it is consistent.

Well, that doesn’t appear to be the most recent deck! 😉
I can’t find it on Sony’s site, the only info I could find was a 4 page PDF on the Broadcast Store’s web site. I didn’t see any mention of insert editing in that pdf.
Do you have the manual that came with the deck? If it does do inserts, you may have to change a menu setting or front panel setting to enable it.

We are having a very similar problem. Regardless of Insert of Assembling our frame accuracy is occasionally spot on and occasionally half a frame off. Have tried everything from enabling all different forms of deck control, offset frame adjustments and had the deck recently serviced – but still the same problem outputting with the Kona LHe card. Seems to completely random in terms of whether it happens or not. We also have our setup tied through Kona Sync Gen and outputting to Sony DVW-500 D-Beta.
We even had Kona replace the card, but still no solution.
