I just had a simple question, first som history.

We have an old Kona LS (PCI / PCI-X) laying around and where looking into an old G5 to put it into. Question is – what modell of G5’s DOESN’T the card work in?

I’ve been told to avoid the following:
    – 1.6, 1.8 Ghz PCI (non-PCI X) Single CPU G5
    – Dual 2.0 Ghz PCI-X G5 from April 2005

    So would a Dual 1.8 Ghz PCI-X G5 work?

Would be great to get input on this!

Only the Quad G5’s – the one with the funky custom power connector, that was the only model of the G5 that had PCIe slots.

I have a dual 2.5 that rocks with a Kona3X card in it.

[Erik Lindahl] “our reseller said we should avoid all non-PCI-X machines as well as the Dual 2.0 Ghz G5 from April 2005.
Is this correct, or would like an old Dual 1.8 (PCI) or any Dual 2.0 (PCI-X) work? “

Your Reseller is telling you not to so you have to buy a new machine.

the LS card will work fine in either machine.

    Hey Erik

I missed your comment on the 1.8 G5 machine, that unit has the older PCI 33 mhz slot and the LS card will not work in it. It has to be the PCIx Slot on the Dual 2.0
