Kona LHi true 24p playback on 720p monitor
Kona LHi question.
I’ve got a Final Cut Sequence at true 24p (not 23.98) – shot on RED. The only way I can see it on my HD monitor is if I set the playback on the Kona LHi to 720 59.94, but then it slips out of sync over time. How can I get it to play in sync on my 720p HD monitor? I’m guessing it’s a pulldown thing, but I’ve got pulldown set to 2:3:2:3. Is that correct?

I would set your output to 720p60 (that’s 60.0), and your monitor has to be able to accept 60.0Hz. What monitor do you have?

The tech specs say the Panasonic VIERA X1 Series TC-P42X1 accepts 60hz, but when I set the output to 720p60, but the image won’t play, it’s frozen on the HD monitor.

59.94 only works for 29.97. You should look for the propper configuration in the Video Settings. You are trying to play frames that do not exist, that is why you are getting the sync issue.

When they say 60 they really mean 59.94. This is the reason to shoot 23.976.
Some more recent and professional flat panel monitors will accept true 60.0 Hz signals.

this is once again why productions use 23.98 instead of 24.0 for 24fps production.
you can conform your content to 23.98 in Cinema Tools or buy a Professional display that works for your specific needs rather than one designed for consumer use.

720p is 59.94 (that’s 59.94p frames per second) as well. There’s also 1080p59.94 (that’s 60p frames per second in 1080).
1080i is 59.94 Fields per second or 29.97 frames per second. With certain p workflows, it’s actually 60 discreet frames per second.
