  • Kona LHe on a G5 dual, which slot #?

Posted by Chris Borjis on April 24, 2008 at 5:23 pm

I’ve seen on the AJA site there are specific slots the LHe
needs to go into for the MacPro’s but they don’t explain
    the G5 with pci-e.

Anyone know which slot its supposed to go in?

Also, would this system have no problem capturing
SD ProRes HQ via Kona Lhe? (Dual G5 2GHZ pci-e)

I believe all the available slots on a G5 are compatible. I’m using the one next to the video card.

    Final Cut Studio 2, FCP 6.0.2, Mac OS-X 10.4.11, Quicktime 7.4, After Effects 6.5 Pro, G5 Quad 2.5, Kona-LHe V5.1, 4.5GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 7800-GT 256MB, G-RAID 2x1TB FW800, 6TB RAID-5 (Enhance E8-ML, Highpoint 2322), Panasonic HVX-200P P2.

    Chris

The Kona card should always be in the slot farthest from your video card (called slot 4) with the only exception being for users with SCSI. fibre or SAS storage, then that card needs to be in the #4 slot and the Kona card should then be in slot #3.

On PCIX machines the slot next to the graphics card should be unused.
On PCIe machines it would depend on which machine version + config. whether slot 2 would be usable or not.

thank you for that clarification Gary, I have a pci-e card on the very top to a caldigit 6TB disk array, so I’ll put the Kona just beneath that and leave the other slot as you suggest.
