Kona 3G and Io together? Upconverting analog Betacam SP
I am installing a new Kona 3G board into my system and have a question. Would it be possible for me to use my old AJA Io box (not Io Express, or Io HD – it’s the old Io) to convert analog Betacam SP component to SD SDI via the Io – out of the Io via SDI – into the KONA 3G? I would like to up-convert my old Betacam SP masters to HD. I’m trying to avoid spending another $800 on the AJA HD10AVA mini-converter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

If the cards are in two systems…you could output from one system into the other. This has been done. You can’t use the cards on the same machine to do what you want. Send the signal to one card from the deck, then back out the same card to the OTHER card. Just won’t work.

I know it isn’t. We have two sitting on the shelf at work, replaced by the Kona 3.
It connects to the computer via Firewire 400. But it still requires being connected to the computer. It isn’t a stand alone device. But I do know that it can be configured on the computer to send a signal thru…independant of the computer. So, you can try to set it up, and then disconnect it, and then see if it will do what you want.
But you need to have the software for it, and the Kona 3G installed on the system. I know that with the later OS versions and drivers for the Kona line, you can have two cards and control panels active. I don’t think it will work with the IO…as it in an OLD device, and the drivers haven’t been updated.
